A mini implant is a revolutionary temporary anchoring device that enables orhodontists to apply pressure to the teeth by using the jaw's bone as an anchor instead of other teeth. They have eliminated unwanted incidental tooth movement, and enabled tooth movements never before possible prior to their developement. The implants are easy to use, and shorten treatment time by continuously moving teeth in the desired direction without incidental tooth movements occuring. Mini implants are very easy to remove without the need of anesthesia.
Most mini implants are 6 mm to 8 mm long with a diameter of 1.4 mm to 1.6 mm. They are used by orthodontists to open and close spaces, move teeth down out of the gums, move teeth back up into the gums, rotate, upright, aid eruption, and open or close the overbite.
